When people search for Christopher Salis, they are often looking to understand the journey behind my work in enterprise technology, procurement strategy, and business transformation.
My career has been shaped by a deep interest in business applications and a strong inclination toward innovation, which ultimately led me to SAP SE. What started as an ambitious goal eventually became a defining chapter of my professional life.
My Early Career and Professional Foundations
I began my journey after completing my education at Purdue University. My first major role was at Adecco Employment Services, where I worked across multiple procurement-focused positions, including IT Procurement Manager, Senior IT Buyer, and Strategic Sourcing Manager.
During my time there, I managed IT procurement programs across nearly 700 global locations, oversaw supplier selection, and led contract negotiations. This experience taught me how to operate at scale and understand the importance of structured processes in large organizations.
I then moved on to roles at Gap Inc. and eBay, where I further strengthened my expertise in procurement, strategic sourcing, and operational efficiency. These roles played a critical part in shaping my approach to solving complex business challenges.
My Turning Point at Business Objects
A significant shift in my career came in 2006 when I joined Business Objects. At the time, joining SAP felt like a distant possibility, but this opportunity set everything in motion.
I started as a Senior Manager in Strategic Sourcing & Procurement. Eventually, I moved into leadership roles such as Senior Director of Global Go-to-Market Process and Product Management, and later Executive Director and Chief of Staff to the Office of the CEO. In these roles, I was deeply involved in setting executive priorities, managing ecosystem operations, and contributing to corporate development and M&A activities.
I also led global forecast operations for a billion-dollar division and handled high-level client engagements. This experience prepared me for what would come next: my transition into SAP following the acquisition of Business Objects.
My Time at SAP and Key Achievements
Joining SAP SE in 2010 was a defining moment for me. I stepped in as Vice President and Head of Global Sales for Line of Business Solutions in Procurement. Over time, I took on expanded responsibilities, including Global Vice President and General Manager, and later Global Vice President and Head of Portfolio for Go-to-Market.
During my time at SAP, I focused on driving innovation and accelerating growth. One of my key achievements was commercializing SAP’s digital business unit and introducing a new B2B/C SaaS business model. This shift helped us achieve significant growth and modernize our approach to enterprise solutions.
I also worked on reducing the time from innovation to revenue, bringing it down from 12 months to just 90 days. This transformation allowed us to respond more effectively to market demands and improve overall business agility.
Another milestone was repositioning underperforming products. I successfully transformed zero-revenue products into a $41 million revenue stream, proving that the right strategy and execution can unlock hidden value.
I also played a strategic role in initiatives that contributed to SAP’s acquisition of Ariba, a move that significantly strengthened SAP’s position in procurement and SaaS solutions. Following the acquisition, I helped lead integration and growth efforts, further expanding our impact.
My Work as a Consultant and Startup Advisor
After my tenure at SAP, I transitioned into consulting and advisory roles. As Managing Partner at Catapuult Consulting, I focus on helping enterprises improve spend management and procurement strategies.
I also work closely with startups, guiding growth strategy, financial planning, and scaling operations. My goal is to help emerging businesses move from early-stage development to sustainable revenue generation.
Being a startup advisor allows me to apply enterprise-level insights in a more agile environment, helping founders navigate challenges and build strong, scalable businesses.
My Commitment to Social Impact
Beyond my professional work, I have always believed in giving back. In 2022, I co-founded the Secure Our Schools Foundation, a nonprofit focused on improving school safety through technology.
Our initiatives include active-shooter prevention, emergency-response systems, and comprehensive incident-management solutions. Through this work, we aim to create safer environments for students and provide educators with the tools they need to handle critical situations effectively.
